The A.R. Kaufman Family YMCA offers a wide variety of Group Fitness classes including: Aquacise, Hi/Low Aerobics, Step Aerobics, Cardio Kickbox, Body Sculpting, Cross Training, Group Cycling, Pilates, Baby Boot Camp, Yoga and more. YMCA Fitness Volunteers and Staff are trained and certified YMCA Fitness Instructors. Check the program schedule for days and times.

Fee: $15 set-up fee

Book your Fitlinxx consultation at the front desk today! You will meet with one of our trained staff who will set you up on a cardiovascular workout plan based on your specific needs and goals. You will learn how to use the Fitlinxx system to maximize the potential and results of your customized plan. The one time set-up fee allows you full access to Fitlinxx in the facility and online.

One of our certified YMCA trainers will ease you into a fitness program with 3 comprehensive and informative one-on-one appointments designed to educate and guide at a pace that is right for you. Individual sessions may be scheduled at the front desk. All part of your membership!

Personal Training ®

Fee:  $40.00 - $60.00/session          
Need more ongoing individual attention? Working with a Personal Trainer is one of the fastest and most successful ways to improve overall fitness. A brochure, with a list of trainers, is available at the Member Services Desk.

Express Workouts ®

Busy? Pressed for time? You CAN fit exercise into your life and we will show you how! Make the most of every minute at the YMCA with one of our three 30 minute "Express Workouts". Each interval training based workout provides both cardiovascular and resistance training. Offered at varying levels of difficulty and intensity, our "Express Workouts" are designed to meet all fitness levels and can be performed at any time. Fitness Certificiation Courses (Leadership) ®
The YMCA of Kitchener-Waterloo offers you the opportunity to obtain a certification in group fitness, individual conditioning or aquatic fitness. Courses and descriptions are listed below.

BASIC THEORY

Fee: Member - $100.00 (+gst)

Non-Member - $140.00 (+gst)

Location: Ontario Early Years Center

This theory-based course is the first step towards becoming a fitness leader. It includes: YMCA Mission and Values, anatomy, physiology, healthy lifestyles, biomechanics, conditioning principles, exercise design and nutrition. Successful completion of the exam is required before progressing to specialties.

Returning Winter 2009
 

Learn the basics and fundamentals of teaching any group fitness class. This course will include a variety of components on music and how to build relationships in a group setting. Successful completion of class time, written exam, apprenticeship and evaluation is required for certification.

APPLIED THEORY:

INDIVIDUAL CONDITIONING - LEVEL 1

Fee: Member - $40.00 (+gst)

Non-Member - $60.00 (+gst)

Location: A.R.K.   

Level 1 is designed to assist YMCA volunteers and staff in understanding the importance of building relationships with Members. Learn the skills necessary to become an effective  guide and monitor in our conditioning centers.Help create a positive atmosphere where Members can strive for, and achieve, their health and fitness goals in Spirit, Mind and Body.

(No Prerequisite needed)

APPLIED THEORY:

Prerequisite - Basic Theory and Group Fitness Fundamentals
This course will focus on 32 count patterns and working with the music to create a safe and effective class.  This foundation will help you teach a Step, Hi/Low, or Boxercise class.

AQUATIC FITNESS

Learn the specifics of aquatic fitness instruction. This course combines the theory and practical components of delivering an aquatic fitness class.  It includes the benefits of water, class organization, safety, music, choreography and leadership.  Successful completion of class time, written exam, apprenticeship and evaluation is required for certification.
