Government funding announcements for YMCA Cross Cultural & Immigrant Services

On May 9, the federal government announced $8.4 million dollars to help newcomers to Canada in Kitchener-Waterloo succeed. More than half of it--$4.3 million--went to YMCA Cross Cultural & Immigrant Services. These funds help three programs to maintain and expand their support of immigrants. The programs receiving funding were Immigrant Settlement and Adaptation Program (ISAP), the Language Assessment Centre and Settlement and Educational Partnerships in Waterloo Region (SEPWR). Read the Waterloo Region Record’s May 10 article.

On May 12, the provincial government announced support Business Quest a joint Lutherwood and YMCA program that assists newcomers interested in pursuing self employment. Read the Waterloo Region Record’s May 13 article.

 
Do you know an older adult in Kitchener deserving of recognition?
The YMCA is a proud sponsor of the 2008 Mayor's Advisory Council for Kitchener Seniors Salute to Seniors. This program recognizes older adults (50+) for the examples they set as role models through active involvement towards a healthy community. Candidates are people who lead the way for healthy aging or act as role models for community involvement. Nominate someone deserving today! The submission deadline is May 20 with a recognition ceremony to be held June 19 at Kitchener City Hall.  
Looking for a special day camp?

This summer, the YMCA is offering specialty day camps for kids who would like to explore a special interest. There is a Computer Camp, Anyone can Draw Comics and Superheroes, Rock Band Summer Camp and Junior Lifeguard Camp. Learn more! Also new in 2008 is a YMCA Day Camp site in West Waterloo

AGM on May 29 at noon

The 112th Annual General Meeting of the Kitchener-Waterloo YMCA will be May 29. It will be at the A.R. Kaufman Family YMCA. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. with the program beginning at noon. Please RSVP to 519-584-7479 ext. 214.
