Summer Day Camps!
The YMCA
2008 Summer Day Camp season is going
to be more exciting than ever! At the YMCA, we strive
to engage, encourage and fascinate our campers in a
wide variety of unforgettable ways and still get them
home in time for supper.
New in 2008 is a YMCA Day Camp site in West Waterloo and specialty day camps! More information on our day camps can be found below or in our Summer Day Camp Brochure.
This page lists the Kitchener-Waterloo day camps, for Cambridge day camps visit the YMCA of Cambridge website.
Our
Commitment to Quality
For years YMCA Day Camps have been a trustworthy and dependable choice. Months before the summer begins, full-time YMCA staff are involved with program development, site selection, and hiring and training summer staff, all to achieve one goal: to provide a quality Day Camp experience where your children will create wonderful memories, develop new relationships, learn new skills and enjoy fun-filled days in a safe, exciting and stimulating environment.
Our Commitment to You
YMCA Day Camps value young people. Our focus is on developing the potential of every camper.
The following principles are our commitment to you.
- YMCA Day Camps build strong kids in a fun, safe
and stimulating environment.
- YMCA Day Camps provide an exciting change from school
during the summer months.
- YMCA Day Camps encourage learning, friendship and
healthy child development.
- In YMCA Day Camps, children are supervised and supported
by trained, inspiring and energetic staff members
who act as positive role models.
- YMCA Day Camp develop the spirit, mind and body
of campers and builds strong character through YMCA
values.
Health
& Safety
Like parents,
the health and safety of day campers is our foremost
concern. Our Day Camp Supervisor is a full-time, year
round supervisor of youth and teen programs with our
Health, Fitness and Recreation department. Site Coordinators
support our counsellors at each of our three sites,
and all staff are trained in emergency and supervisory
procedures. Our lifeguards, who are certified by the
National Lifesaving Society, supervise all aquatic activities.
Staff to child
ratios are as follows: (Please note that in addition,
we often have volunteers working in our camps)
- Adventure Days (3-5 yrs) 1:10
- Discovery Days (5-12 yrs) 1:12
- Leadership Development (12-16 yrs) 1:16
Our
Staff - "Professional Role Models"
The YMCA recognizes
the tremendous impact a positive day camping experience
has on the development of a child. Our camp staff are
university, college and senior high school students
who have a personal interest in ensuring that your child's
experience is one that will be cherished and remembered
for a lifetime. Staff are selected based on their
leadership skills, day camping experience and genuine
interest in working with children of all backgrounds
and abilities. All staff are carefully screened and trained
in YMCA Healthy Child Development Principles and First
Aid and CPR.
The YMCA offers a number
of distinct Day Camping opportunities for your children
to enjoy.
