Assess the needs of participants briefly to
assure their basic expectations will be met.
Decide who will be the best speaker/s or
resource person/s for the session.
Assign speakers/resource persons corresponding
to the above components.
Session is worthwhile if there are at least
five to six participants and two resource people, excluding the organizers.
Agenda: The agenda must be carefully structured
because the time is limited to a three-hour session. Participants often need more time to
interact with the resource persons. The best way to control the group process is to allow
equal time to each resource person to present, followed by the facilitation of questions
and answers. Encourage resource persons to give handouts if possible.
Encourage resource speakers to share their
successes but also their dilemmas and issues at the time of career decision making.
Prepare a list of participants and prepare
their name displays by writing in block letters on one side of a folded paper.
Prepare handouts and make copies of all the
information you want to share with the participants, particularly fact sheets, important
addresses, websites, etc.
Prepare an evaluation form and make enough
copies for all.
On the day of the session, make the room
arrangement in a circle format to allow for maximum interaction.
Following the session, enter your own
field notes about what worked and what did not work so you can improve future sessions.
