Overseas Partnerships:

The YMCA of Kitchener-Waterloo has been in partnership with the National Council of YMCAs of Zimbabwe since 1982 and has recently opened a new partnership with the YMCAs of Zambia.

Goals

  • To strengthen our partners abilities to deliver the YMCA mission in their own communities.
  • To raise awareness at the local level about issues of development, motivating participants to action both locally and internationally.
  • To promote the inclusion of young people in local and international community development
  • To generate greater support from donors and constituents for the association's work in international areas.
  • To develop leadership potential in individuals

ZIMBABWE

The mission of the Zimbabwe YMCA is to contribute to the spiritual, physical, cultural, intellectual, economic and sociopolitical well being of young people and marginalized groups through empowerment programs and the promotion of sustainable development.

The KW YMCA currently supports a Family Life Education Project in Zimbabwe, where youth learn about human rights, HIV/AIDS and more.

ZAMBIA

The KW YMCA has opened a new partnership with the YMCAs of Zambia.  The Zambia YMCA engages people of all ages and backgrounds in their many projects, making it one of the largest NGOs in Zambia.

The KW YMCA is currently supports an HIV/AIDS Peer Education Project in Zambia, where young people learn about HIV/AIDS in workshops and then pass their newfound information on in their respective communities.
