BEFORE YOU START

PURPOSE
The following checklist should be reviewed before you start using MODULE 3.
We suggest that you print this list so that you may check off each component as you go.

Make an intake appointment with a newcomer

Ask the newcomer to bring all documents related to education, experience and training, translated or untranslated, and possibly any documents obtained here in Canada

Obtain the newcomer’s employment history, educational background and his/her desirable career goal, if already set

Ask the newcomer to fill out a Career Planning Intake Form or make notes based on the form while talking on the phone. Unanswered questions may be left for a meeting time. Prepare a file folder for the client and include a copy of the Career Planning Intake Form

Prepare documentation for the first meeting (you will need the same documentation for the group session):

Related labour market information

Information on computer, language or occupational training opportunities

Licensing and certification information, if needed

Copies of a "Career Path" and "Developing your Action Plan" exercises

Any resource information available and pertinent to the newcomer(s) inquiry

Any other documentation that the newcomer(s) requested
