YMCA Child Care - Frequently Asked Questions
Are the centres governed by regulations?
All the centres operated by the Kitchener-Waterloo YMCA are licensed by the Province of Ontario and adhere to all regulations
set down by the Day Nurseries Act, Public Health and the Fire Department, as
well as YMCA standards.
How do I enroll my child?
Complete a Registration
Form and forward it to your child
care of choice. Receipt of the Form will put
your child onto the active waiting list. The centre
supervisor will maintain regular contact with
you in an effort to accommodate your care request.
How do you define quality?
- Children are happy and involved
- Children experience activities that reflect and
challenge their developmental growth
- Children are encouraged to express opinions and
needs
- Parents are comfortable sending their children to
child care
- Parent and staff communications are open and frequent
- Staff have a caring attitude
- Staff are respectful
- Staff are sensitive to each child’s needs
- Safety controls are in place and practiced
- Food is nutritionally balanced.

What are your hours of operation?
Care is provided Monday to Friday, 51 weeks of the year.
Most centres are open 7 am – 6 pm.
Centres are closed for approximately one week between
Christmas and New Years, Family Day, Good Friday,
Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic
Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day.
What are the fees?
Fees depend upon the program. Please see our fee chart for details.
What type of meals/snacks are provided?
Centres provide morning and afternoon snack and a nutritious lunch. We encourage
each child to try each type of food.
Will you accommodate children with special needs?
Yes, our centres provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all children
and families.
